MALAWIAN WOMEN MAKING STRIDES IN THE FILM INDUSTRY
Cathreen Star Mlenga , a Malawian lady #BreakingStereotypes as a film producer and actress. Cathreen is a marketer by profession. She started her acting journey when she was only 5 years old when she would act in church plays. She ventured into professional acting in 2011 after she sat for her MSCE. She acted in a number of music videos and stage plays and went on to produce her first short film in 2017 titled “Caroline Chapter One”. She has been casted in a number of productions including “Spouses and Workmates”, “Bittersweet”, “Affairs”, “Anansi”, and “Entity”. She is yet to release her first full feature film, “Sowing Seeds” on 30 July, 2021 at Golden Peacock Hotel in Lilongwe. “Sowing Seeds” is a story about a young lady named Nthanda, who got married off to her teenage boyfriend after he impregnated her. We see the struggle she and her boyfriend go through and how they pull through and change their misery to success. Her message to girls is to “focus until you make it.” She says t
